Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can Advertising and PR replace Reputation Management?

Never. The intent of a Reputation Management exercise is different from that of Advertising and PR. The objective of Reputation Management is to alter the Behavior of the organization to help meet its Reputation Goals. A Reputation Management Firm will work closely with all teams in the organization to understand, analyze and enhance the work done by them with the intent to truly transform them to a desired state.

On the other hand, Advertising and PR are an out-and-out communication initiative with the intent to market the organization to help improve sales and top-of –the-mind recall.

Simply, with Advertising and PR, you can make people believe__albeit for a shorter period__as to who you are, without actually changing anything about yourself. Whereas, with Reputation Management, you first transform yourself and this leads to newer definition of who you are. Surely, Reputation Management has a more lasting, enduring impact.

  2. Is Reputation Management same as Crisis Management?

Reputation Management involves building and protecting the Reputation of an organization. The objective is not to correct, but to prevent blemishes. It is a continuous process and is as much integral to the Management system of an organization as Finance, HR or Marketing. Managing crises is but an aspect of Reputation Management.

  3. How do you define good Reputation?

Good Reputation is achieved when stakeholders’ perceptions of an organization match the desired perception set by the organization’s management. Or, in other words, you have a good Reputation when what the world defines you to be is in sync with what you want to be seen as.

  4. Who are an organization’s stakeholders?

All parties whose perception of an organization, impacts its Reputation – constitute the Stakeholder Group. Employees, Customers, Vendors, Funding Sources, Shareholders, Media, Community, Government and Competitors are all stakeholders of an organization.

  5. Who needs to manage Reputation?
All individuals and organizations that aspire for Greatness need to manage their Reputation. Period. If you want hype, use Advertising and PR. If you want to build a Great Institution, choose the Reputation Management Way.
